inside the capitol, but i constituents outside as well. >> i am a little worried about the future as well, for my kids mostly. >> it is a popular thought outside the capital. >> there is an understandable frustration. >> chris van hull and is hopeful a deal can be reached by tuesday, although it will likely be a smaller deal that addresses only the major parts of the fiscal cliff from taking effect. >> we have got to get on a larger agreement, to make sure we sustained a very fragile economy, tried to get it to move faster, and deal with the long- term deficit. >> those decisions may not happen until 2013. a smaller deal would be temporary, sending congress back to work on the details next year. >> i am not ok with them waiting six months or year kick to get things done. >> jake sherman of "politico"

coming up at 5:30, a closer look at how the country got in this financial situation in the first place. >> we're learning more tonight about a robber turned police pursuit that ended with a vehicle crashed into a metro bus. happen at the intersection of wheeler and southern avenues in southeast washington. >> that accident happening here at this intersection of wheeler road and southern ave. it is a very busy intersection. it happened very early this morning. authorities say this all began much, much earlier. >> this is the scene at southern avenue and wheeler road in southeast d.c. after police say this stolen car slammed into a metro bus. >> at what point will they realize that you need to think about what you do before you do it? in the end you can hurt somebody. >> police say early this morning the suspects stole the

car in landover and began stealing items out of cars and a number of different locations. she believes she was one of the victims of the early morning crime spree. she says her purse was snatched out of her back seat was vacuuming her car at this northeast gas station. >> they grabbed it just that fast. >> she says she gave police the tag number. police later spotted the car in oxon hill and twice attempted to pull the car over. authorities say both times the car fled. authorities say the driver then lost control, crashed into this white car before running into the bus. several people, including the driver of the car and the bus were injured and taken to the hospital. >> the only thing i could think was i'm glad it did not pull a weapon on me, and take my vehicle and my pocketbook for me. -- from me. >> to understand two of the

>> we are following breaking news coming from albany, new york. a jet bound for dallas from albany turned around after smoke was reported in one of the restrooms. an airport spokesman said united flight 3739 landed safely just after 3:30 this afternoon. there were no injuries. a frightening sequence of events today in a police station in southern new jersey. the man being processed for a domestic violence charge should taken inside injuring three police officers.

temperatures to be close to freezing. the will be imported as we had overnight. 38 degrees at reagan national airport. 36 degrees in gaithersburg and martinsburg. this area is under a winter weather advisory starting at 3:00 a.m. tomorrow morning until 6:00 p.m.. this is the area where there will be the most snow fall. this is because of the storm system and the way it is moving and temperatures spread will favor these areas you she see shaded in purple. it will be cloudy night here. the timing will be about 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning. this is the way it looks now with moisture. a few rumbles of thunder through the mid south and seeps out. -- deep south.

one area of low pressure and a secondary one of the baltimore coast. it is going to move off shore before it rapidly intensifies. that is why we do not expect a major storm. 6:00 a.m. according to this computer model snow should include your all across the area. -- shaded in blue all across the aera. mostly rain south east of town. the only effect this will have to shut off precipitation and bring in gusty winds on sunday. will keep a close eye on this. as we get to the next 24 hours or so, perhaps an inch or so of snow. mainly rain issues we will be dealing with here. colder air north and west. temperatures just above freezing. snow will hang tough for a good portion of the afternoon before it moves out late in the afternoon and evening.

emerging from the worst recession since the great depression. lawmakers extended the tax cuts. >> both houses have passed a package of tax relief. > republicans say no higher tax rates on the rich. no tax hikes on anyone. >> we need to start cutting spending now. >> and a separate debate during 2011 republicans demand the government reduce its deficit as a condition for raising the nation's pulse of debt ceiling. a last-minute compromise, both sides agreed to trillions of dollars in spending cuts and another $1.20 billion in cuts to be decided by a special congressional supercommittee. if the supercommittee cannot reach a deal automatic across- the-board cuts would go into effect starting january 2013.

by the time it wraps up, we may see an inch or so in the metro area. to adjust to4 inches it will turn wendy and a lot cooler the day on it will turn wendyindy and cold on sunday. next seven days shows a sunny and cold new year's eve, a cold new year's day with a chance of a few showers. let's go live to the white house with president obama. >> for the past couple of months, i've been working with leaders of both parties to try to forge an agreement to build our economy and shrink the deficit. the ballast planned and cut spending in a responsible way that would also ask the wealthiest americans to pay a little more. i still want to get this done.

it is the right thing to do for families, our businesses, and our entire economy. but the allure for immediate action is here. -- hour for immediate action is here. in just a four days, every american's tax rates are scheduled to go up by law. every american's paycheck will get considerably smaller. that would be the wrong thing to do for our economy. it would be bad for middle-class families, and it would be bad for businesses that depend on family spending. fortunately, congress can prevent it from happening if the act right now. i just had a good and constructive discussion here in the white house with senate and house leadership about how to prevent the tax hike on the middle class. i'm optimistic we may still be able to reach an agreement that can pass both houses in time. senators reid and mcconnell are

working on such an agreement as we speak. but if an agreement is not reached in time, between senator reid and senator mcconnell, i will urge senator reid to bring to the floor a basic package for and getan up or down vote, one that extends the vital lifeline of unemployment insurance to 2 million americans, and lays the groundwork for future cooperation on more economic growth and deficit reduction. i believe such a proposal could pass both houses with bipartisan majorities, as long as those leaders allowed to actually come to a vote. if members of the house of the senate want to vote no they can. but we should let everybody vote. that is the way this is supposed

to work. if we get a majority in the house, we can get a majority in the senate, and should be able to pass the bill. obviously patience is thin. this is deja vu all over again. america wonders why it is that in this town for some reason, you cannot get stuff done in an organized timetable. why does it always have to wait till the last minute? we are at the last minute. the american people are not going to have any patients for a politically self-inflicted wound to our economy. not right now. the economy is growing but sustaining that trend is going to require elected officials to do their jobs. the housing market is recovering but that could be impacted if folks are seeing smaller paychecks. the unemployment rate is the lowest it has been since 2008. but already nursing businesses

and consumers starting to hold back -- you are seeing businesses and consumers starting to hold back. economists, business leaders of all think we're poised to grow in 2013. as long as politics in washington cannot get any of america's progress. we have got to get this done. -- do not get in the way of america's progress. we have got to get this done. senators reid and mcconnell are discussing an agreement. given how things happen working in this town we always have to wait and see until it actually happens. the one thing the american people should not have to wait and see is some sort of action. if we do not see an agreement between the two leaders in the senate, i expect a bill to go on the floor, and i asked senator

reid to do this, put a bill on the floor and make sure that taxes on middle-class families to not go up, the unemployment insurance is still available for 2 million people, and that lays the groundwork for additional deficit-reduction and economic growth steps we can take in the new year. but let's not miss this deadline. that is the bare minimum we should be able to get done. and it should not be that hard. democrats and republicans both say they do not want to see taxes go up on middle-class families. i just have to repeat. outside of washington, and nobody understands how is that this seems to be a repeat pattern, over and over again. ordinary folks, they do their jobs. they meet deadlines. they sit down and discuss things and then things happen.
